Making it Paradise...bits of Bajan life

I believe the children are the future. Do you? I sincerely hope you do because this statement happens to be literally correct and has been proven time and again throughout human existence :). We all  need to collectively accept this great responsibility of raising our next generation to the best of our and their abilities. Hence I take my job as a teacher very seriously. Not that I am a severe or serious teacher, but for me, the task of shaping future adult minds is a great and auspicious one. No matter what you do for a living, you have been influenced by a teacher. Over the years, I have documented many a teacher moment and often peruse them and wonder what the future holds for my charges. Time will tell. But I enjoy every moment of it. Maybe because I love what I do and what I teach. As I mentioned initially, my decision to return to Barbados was driven mainly by the fact that I had become a mother. The thought of raising two children in a fast-paced city while working weekends and long hours did not seem either practical or desirable. It is a decision that I have not regretted so far. My children thoroughly enjoy the carefree, extremely safe and nature filled world they are growing in. During a discussion in class this week, a fellow student suggested that children "abroad" meaning big cities, were better positioned because of various social infrastructure not present here. I was immediately prompted to show what experiences children can have on an island that can be just as rich and fulfilling as those in major cities. I find in many cases they are richer because they are hands on and immediate and mostly natural. Also I want to remind us all that learning does not only take place in a classroom but everywhere .
