As I mentioned initially, my decision to return to Barbados was driven mainly by the fact that I had become a mother. The thought of raising two children in a fast-paced city while working weekends and long hours did not seem either practical or desirable. It is a decision that I have not regretted so far. My children thoroughly enjoy the carefree, extremely safe and nature filled world they are growing in.
During a discussion in class this week, a fellow student suggested that children "abroad" meaning big cities, were better positioned because of various social infrastructure not present here. I was immediately prompted to show what experiences children can have on an island that can be just as rich and fulfilling as those in major cities. I find in many cases they are richer because they are hands on and immediate and mostly natural. Also I want to remind us all that learning does not only take place in a classroom but
everywhere.
Case in point, my children love the beach so we explore lots of options.............
Viewing fish from the glass bottom boat |
Snorkelling |
Or lounging upper deck style! |
Aerobics.... |
or a dance :) |
Building sand castles...... |
Running..... |
Or just goofing off.
But they equally appreciate getting out into nature..........green unspoiled nature!.
This is a family favourite of ours. In the middle of the woods, we captured a one of a kind image.
Exploring a natural spring with friends
and fishing!
Helping to gather cuttings and of course climbing ..................."monkey boy" is at it again :)
Fresh coconut water "in the bush" |
Spelunking at Cole's Cave with friends along.
But we also enjoy the other side of island life,.........
Like hotel days.........
Finding turtles in the pool
and why not a little jacuzzi?
Cultural events |
Fine Dining
And all of the other normal activities any child engages in.......
My children are also lucky to have some of the world come to them and they love having friends visit. I think their friends loving it here and wishing they could live here also make them appreciate Barbados a whole lot more. LIKE....
