Breadfruit ...... So Many Ways

Image
I have a confession to make. In 2005 when I returned to Barbados, I ate breadfruit every week! Well, to be perfectly honest I ate breadfruit multiple times a week. Yes, I was overdosing on breadfruit. Reason being it was so hard to get the real fresh deal in NYC. Breadfruits do not travel well! Eight years later, we still love breadfruit. Much to my delight they are easy to come by all year round and are absolutely free . EVERYBODY knows somebody who has a breadfruit tree. Breadfruit is so very versatile and easy to cook. SO, today I bring you all things breadfruit.

Reaching A High Point

Image
Last summer vacation we decided to explore the East Coast Road   (ECR).  Of course I had been to this popular picnic spot countless times, not including the endless drivebys on Sunday evenings. Do you remember when it was the norm for Bajan families with cars to drive around on Sundays after lunch? Back then beach houses along Cattlewash and Bathseba would be packed with families, cars would line the ECR where persons could be seen picking seagrapes, fatporks and cashews . ..those were the good days! So let's go relive some memories......... Welcome Street level views were quite alluring! BUT , as expected, we got off the beaten track and headed up into the hills.  You could not pay for these view!!!  Do you have memories of writing on these plants? We look forward to returning another time to see if our note is still there. We strolled the roads and beach enjoying the magnificent views and the s...

St. Lucy, worth the trip 

Image
One of the best adventures we have had as a family was exploring in and around Little   Bay, St. Lucy. We were up early one Sunday morning in the mood for a bus ride. The first bus we saw said “ Checker Hall ” so we were St. Lucy bound. This is one parish that I must admit not being familiar with at all! St. Lucy is so damned beautiful people. Unbelievably picturesque! Well we stumbled upon Little Bay that morning and decided we would return and return we did. There is so much diversity in this one little area. We scaled the cliff wall, trekked through dry hillside, walked along a river bed, scrambled in bush and eventually found a BUS TO CITY STOP (our never- get- lost symbol of hope J ). WARNING: It's about to get picture crazy  J The start of our journey Very dry landscape The river bed we followed inland End point. Our view from the bus stop. Then there was the ocean Dolphin? We had a tonnes of fun!!!! ...

So...I almost melted today!

Image
Seriously, I think I reached melting point today! The last few days have been almost unbearably humid. I sit in my front room, windows and doors open, fan going, celebrating every breeze that passes by. Yes,..... I have become so desperate, that every time the wind blows I make a public announcement akin to "Did you feel that?" or "Oh man! that breeze feels good". It's almost a celebration. Well, I don't know what's getting you through this heat wave wherever you are but here in sweet Barbados, I am attempting to keep chill by breaking out the trusted Banks beer. Nothing beats an ice cold Banks!  You know it's cold when it condenses! I can easily have a few throughout the day because they are very mild. At least to my taste! Compared to most beers, their 4.7% alcohol content seems quite reasonable. I also thoroughly enjoyed these Bob Marley Mellow Mood Drinks. I am soo sorry I did not pick up a few  more because $2.00 for su...
